DONATE TODAY to Raise the FOOD ROOF

Help us ‘raise the roof’ – the FOOD ROOF that is!

DONATE HERE

Our online fundraising campaign with Rally Saint Louis has lauched! With your support, we pledge to donate food grown on the FOOD ROOF in our 2013 pilot year to local families in need. Your contribution towards this unique community experience will not only help us to build the FOOF ROOF, but will also help bring food, education and a community together in downtown St. Louis for decades to come.

At the end of the day, we want to once again put St. Louis back in the national spotlight through an innovative, educational, and progressive agriculture development which benefits our community’s health while showcasing our charitable giving abilities.

We ask for your help today to make this project a reality by making a donation. We need to raise at least $25,000 to get this project off the ground, so to speak. Every penny counts and no contribution is too small.

What’s Next with the FOOD ROOF & Rally Saint Louis

Well, we won!!! The FOOD ROOF beat out hundreds of ideas submitted and got top votes in the first round of the online crowdsourcing platform Rally Saint Louis. So now what?

The top five voted projects now move onto the crowdfunding phase! We are busy developing our fundraising campaign and it will go live 1 February 2013! The format will be similar to Kickstarter, basically we set a funding goal and people can donate towards it. If we receive enough pledges to meet our goal then the project gets funded and built, and if we do not meet our goal then we get nothing! So, we still need your help to grow this FOOD ROOF.

Let’s Raise the Roof with Rally Saint Louis!

We did it – the FOOD ROOF was the top voted project on Rally Saint Louis in December!!!! Thanks to all the dedicated voters out there we received over 2300 votes. It was very exciting witnessing the votes increase every day, and inspiring that so many folks supported this idea.

THE NEXT STEPS:
The top five voted projects on Rally Saint Louis will move onto an online crowdfunding phase starting 1 February 2013. Each project will be assigned a budget for implementation, and will be soliciting online donations similar to Kickstarter. Projects that meet their fundraising goals are awarded the cash to build, projects that fail to meet their goal get nothing. So, we will need your help in ‘raising the FOOD ROOF’, stay tuned for more details.

A Successful First Year!

It is bitter sweet that our first growing season at the downtown community garden has come to a close. We have put the garden to rest until the spring.

Reflecting back, it was  a great year. Over 30 urbanites grew nearly 1000 lbs. of food, of which 150 lbs. were donated to McMurphy’s Grill through a partnership with St. Patrick Center.

We hosted various volunteer days and tours. Volunteers spent about 575 hours working in the garden, from installing a sun canopy to building an urban pumpkin patch, and from planting flowers to weeding.

We hosted the first annual Haunted Harvest Festival where 90 people from the community harvested their own pumpkins from the urban pumpkin patch and enjoyed live music by the South City Serenaders.

We displayed the artwork of local artist Claire Frandsen in our flower beds. The NOK (nose + beak) sculptures added an element of whimsy and delight to the garden.

Not only did we grow food, but we grew a community of friends and neighbors who are contributing to their own well-being, and to the vitality of our social fabric.

With that, we would like to thank EVERY SINGLE PERSON that was involved, whether you were an urban gardener, a sponsor, a volunteer, or a community member that came out to visit – we could not have done it without you!
