Jack Braley
Rung for Women Farm Manager
he/they
Jack’s relationship with the natural world began by looking up. At a young age, the vastness of the cosmos above them gave rise to circulating questions about consciousness, purpose, and human values. This curiosity led them to study physics and astronomy in San Antonio, TX, where they were born. While seeded in the night sky, their curiosity for natural systems flourished and expanded during their schooling. While researching dark matter and black holes, they took a semester abroad in Australia where they dove into sustainability and environmental action. This is where their attention shifted towards the state of our climate and how unprecedented shifts in future decades will undoubtedly wreak havoc on communities globally. This shift in focus of their passion ultimately launched them on the path that led them to Urban Harvest STL. Coming off the back-end of three years researching perennial plant biology at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, they’ve been growing a desire to build a career in regenerative, sustainable agriculture. Leading with the idea that food is freedom, they’ve been growing and volunteering at community gardens, urban farms, and in their own backyard for several years, hoping to turn their passion for growing community around local, resilient food systems into a career. Thus, it was only natural for them to be magnetized to Urban Harvest STL. They completed the Farming for Community Apprenticeship in the Fall of 2024, and started as the Farm Manager at Rung for Women in February 2025. While you can find them spending most of their time growing food or in the kitchen, Jack is also an avid outdoor enthusiast and recreator. They hike, backpack, rock climb, and mountaineer when they can, and see their love for nature as an underline through their professional and personal life.
