Katie Houck joined Urban Harvest STL in December 2021 as Executive Director. She brings with her 20 years of experience in higher education and community engagement. Most recently, Katie worked in New Orleans, LA at Tulane University’s Center for Public Service. There, she connected students, faculty members, and community partners to create sustainable relationships and build resilient communities. Previously, Katie served as a site manager for Lutheran Disaster Response’s Hurricane Katrina operation, coordinating volunteers and relief/recovery activities.
Katie is passionate about improving food access and building sustainable and equitable food systems. In New Orleans, she served on the board of the New Orleans Fruit Tree Project, an organization focused on gleaning citrus from local residents and orchards. Katie also volunteered with the Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine’s community cooking classes and Second Harvest food distribution and feeding programs. She enjoys gardening and cooking, and she looks forward to learning about the growing seasons and crops in St Louis.
