she/they

From summer camp farms in Wisconsin to community gardening in North County St. Louis, Zayla has a wide range of gardening and farming experiences. They began as a teen intern for the Seeds of Hope community garden in 2017 located in Spanish Lake, Missouri. From there Zayla went on to manage small-scale farms at summer camps in rural Wisconsin . When not working at Urban Harvest you can find them at Dooley’s Florist and Gifts in Old Town Florissant, Missouri. There, Zayla helps out around the shop and has started to learn and master the art of floristry earning them the title of Apprentice Florist. In her free time, Zayla likes to continue training her service dog, Zuva Alora. Zuva is an AKC titled golden retriever that sometimes tags along with Zayla.

Zayla considers herself extremely passionate about environmental education, her family and friends, and fighting food injustice in minority communities. They fully believe in Urban Harvest’s mission and feel so lucky to have the privilege to work with community members on a project that is so necessary for change. Zayla’s lifetime goal is to eventually create her own homestead and grow her own food.
